Key Lake Drilling Preliminary Assays Received
May 7th, 2008
WestCan Uranium Corp (“WestCan”; “the Company”), announces that preliminary assays have been received by CanAlaska Uranium Ltd, on diamond drill hole “Key 005”, which had intercepted hydrothermal alteration and hematization within a structure located 10 km south-west of the Key Lake Mine. Assay results of the core samples have indicated the elevated radiometric counts detected by hand scintillometers and down-hole probe in drill hole KEY005 are due to Thorium mineralization, and not Uranium mineralization.
Additional drilling, which will concentrate on a previously drilled target located on a claim 8 km to the NW where drilling in 2006 intersected a wide structural corridor with 0.06% U3O8 over 0.15 m in drill hole KEY001, is being discussed with CanAlaska Uranium Ltd, the optionor and the operator of the property.
Samples of the drill core were collected and submitted to Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd in Vancouver. Acme has implemented a quality system compliant with the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001:2000 Model for Quality Assurance and ISO 17025 - General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. The samples were collected by CanAlaska field geologists under the supervision of Dr Karl Schimann, and were shipped in secure containment to the laboratory. A detailed report is expected with 2 to 3 weeks.
WestCan has recently submitted the final option payments and share issuances for the Key Lake and Cree West Projects, which were due to CanAlaska pursuant to the Company’s option agreement.
