WestCan Uranium Corp Receives Additional Saskatchewan Coal Exploration Approvals
Friday June 26th, 2009
WestCan Uranium Corp., is pleased to announce the Company has received notification from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment that the project proposal for the Company’s exploration program on the Wapawekka Lake Project located near Lac La Ronge, has been approved.
The overall program has identified 25 potential drill sites on Coal Prospecting Permits held by Silver Fields and will consist of drilling, sampling, and geophysical logging of the near surface sediments to determine the thickness of coal measures, distribution of coal seams within the coal measures, coal seam thickness and initial coal quality data in each hole.
Management is leaving for Lac La Ronge next week to meet with the site geologist and the site manager to finalize the number of holes to be drilled in the first phase and begin the mobilization process. It is expected exploration and drilling could commence early in August, depending on weather conditions, ground conditions, and the completion of the financing announced in Stockwatch June 5th, 2009. This program would be in addition to the drilling on the Old Channel project, near Tobin Lake.
The commodity sought is sub-bituminous coal within the Lower Cretaceous age Manville Group sediments. The coal horizon is reported to lie within approximately 100 metres of the surface. Western portions of the project area lie only 10 to 15 kilometres southeast of the previously defined Bow River Coal Resource. Many known coal outcrops and previous drill holes where coal beds were encountered, exist in the surrounding area.
